I began painting at the late age of 67 in 2009 through the expertise of Anne Gifford. I had never painted before but thought her encouragement I have fallen in love with the medium. I am always pursuing new techniques and styles to enhance my paintings. I love experimenting with texture producing materials so I earned the title of "Texture Queen" of the class.
Through the years I realized that painting was my therapy. I was new to the area and needed a place to belong in Boulder. So i discovered the painting class at the East Boulder Senior Center. I found the group very accepting and I grew in my skills along with the skilled. Then again with the death of a brother and my sister I received great support from my art community as they included me in the class via email with pictures.
I taught school in the south for 40 years and always loved creative activities in my classroom. I love cooking, sewing, gardening and music all of which have creative element in them.
Anne Gifford is the one who encouraged me to apply for open studio. I'm hoping this will give me the motivation to pursue my love of painting even more.
