I have been inspired to develop art much of my life. From undergraduate fine arts classes at Penn State to getting a Masters in Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania I became interested in photography, sketching and painting early in my career. As a landscape architect and teacher for 35 years and a co owner of a Boulder design company 1991-2007, I led the design of parks, streets and public spaces. I relied upon my artistic and graphic skills to develop projects in engaging public design processes that reflected aesthetic and ecological design intentions. Since beginning a new path as an artist in 2008 and annually traveling to Italy and beyond, I now actively sketch and paint poetic places, landscapes, hill towns, atmosphere and birds. I love to capture light, movement, color, patterns and form with quick lines and brush strokes that capture cherished experiences and evoke the story of place. During the last year I have created mixed media watercolor paintings and mappings that explore plan views of urban places and patterns that evoke the intimate, human scale and organic character of marvelous real and imaginary places that people love and remember. This is my third year showing my work in Open Studios and I look forward to meeting all who visit my small alley studio on the north side of Mapleton Hill .
