When painting pictures I often start with an abstract or energetic underpainting. Each abstract beginning could stand alone as a painting, but I don’t stop there. I then sit with the image and contemplate what might be emerging or what might be called to the piece. Once I know the direction, the next level of paintings begins. Slowly or quickly the form is created. I see the image through my eyes, bring it into my heart and translate the essence of the subject on to the canvas. My art does not just repeat the obvious but it explores the unknown and the unseen. As I observe what is being created, my eyes and heart continue to collaborate in order to translate the invisible for the final image. I must be able to feel the spirit of the subject before I can call it complete.
