Lisa engages in creative process as a form of meditation. Viewed as a practice, art making becomes both a way to be with not knowing, a means to know the Self and gain glimpses of the true nature of reality.
In that space, ordinary paintbrushes become implements for liturgy; a simple sketch or painting can become ritual; a way to offer oneself to the numinous, and a guide to help to navigate mystery and help locate the sacred within.
“In the mundane, nothing is sacred. In sacredness, nothing is mundane.” -Dogen Zenji
Lisa’s primary medium has become encaustic - utilizing bee's wax and color pigments hardened with pine tree resin. She enhances each piece with the application of oil paints, pastel dust and metal leaf. She also makes large mythical land and seascape paintings in acrylic while never straying far from her first love, photography.
In addition to her work as an artist, Lisa is a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor. She facilitates Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction groups, workshops focusing on art as a mindfulness practice and has been adjunct faculty Naropa University. Her work can be seen at

Heading far north on Broadway, Lotus Opening Studio is in the 4th building on the west/left side of the road after passing the Lee Hill Road traffic light. Pull in around the right side of The Amazing Garage Sale. The studio is the first door you will come to on that side of the building.
