Painting for me is an opportunity to exercise the wonderful gift of creativity. That mysterious and slippery loop from the subconscious to the finished painting has an endless intrigue for me. Painting itself has been the best teacher and trial and error the best education. Chuck Close, one of the masters of contemporary American art said: "ease is the greatest enemy of the artist; when you get good at something and just keep cranking it out. The hard thing is to keep yourself in a little bit of trouble". So far, every painting I have ever completed has been a challenge and I hope it stays that way. I enjoy being "in a little bit of trouble"
